US and Ukraine sign critical minerals deal.

Pierre Crom/Getty Images CNN  —  The United States and Ukraine have signed an “economic partnership agreement” that will give Washington access to Kyiv’s rare earth minerals in exchange for establishing an investment fund in Ukraine. The US and Ukraine have been trying to hammer out the natural resources agreement since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January. The deal comes after weeks of intense negotiations that at times turned bitter and temporarily derailed Washington’s aid to Ukraine. The US Treasury Department on Wednesday announced that both countries signed the agreement. “As the President has said, the United States is committed to helping facilitate the end of this cruel and senseless war,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.   Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs second-half open thread The Buffalo Bills trail the Kansas City Chiefs 21-16 at halftime, in what was a frenzied and frustrating first half of football for Bills Mafia. As has been the case so often with quarterback Josh Allen, the offense found its way to a late-half touchdown to head into the locker room on a positive note. Things couldn’t have started much worse for the Bills, where the offense failed to get anything going out of the gate, somehow fortunate enough that Josh Allen didn’t throw an interception on two different passes. Allen was later lucky to not lose a fumble that left his grasp. Allen eventually settled down a bit, but he’s still playing a brand of football foreign to his 2024 campaign. The defense hasn’t been tremendous in the crunch, either. There’s no doubt the team feels for cornerback Christian Benford, who suffered his second concussion in a seven-day span. Task force looking for drone operators disrupting firefight A law enforcement uncrewed aerial vehicle task force is in place at the fires and looking for drones and operators flying them over fire zones, which present a danger to firefighting aircraft, an FBI official said today. “If you fly these drones, we’re not able to use our most sophisticated technique to contain these fires and save lives,” Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles Field Office, said at a news conference.
